Electrolytes are a category of minerals that are needed in the body for energy production, fluid balance, nervous system function, and muscle and heart function.

When are Electrolytes needed?
◾️ When you exercise or spend a lot of time in hot weather: The body loses electrolytes through sweat.
◾️ When you decide to drink alcohol: Alcohol causes electrolyte loss, which can lead to dehydration.
◾️ If you drink 2 or more cups of coffee a day: Caffeine causes a certain amount of electrolyte loss
◾️ If you are sick and your body loses a lot of fluid: The body loses electrolytes along with the fluid.

Electrolytes are: magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium. These minerals are electrically charged particles that transfer electrical charge between cells, and are therefore called electrolytes.
